What is the REAL impact of Women Owned Businesses? In a few months, we will find out.

The Center for Women's Business Research, the National Women's Business Council, and Wal-Mart commissioned an extensive, groundbreaking study of women business owners across the United States to quantify the economic impact of women entrepreneurs. THANKS to all the women business owners who took the time to complete the survey!

For a number of reasons, no one has ever done a study that determines the direct and indirect economic impact of women-owned firms. We all know that economic impact goes far beyond the annual revenues that a business reports. And we all know that without national data, it is impossible to make a compelling case for increased funding, training and procurement dollars for women-owned firms.

We believe the findings from this research will provide critical knowledge which will help propel women-owned businesses towards further growth and profitability. The study's results will be presented at the Economic Summit hosted by Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) and Wal-Mart in Washington D.C. in October 2009.

What is economic impact?

Economic impact measures the true and total contribution of a woman-owned business and women-owned businesses to our economy beyond gross or net receipts. Other areas impacted include hired business services (such as real estate, insurance, transportation or travel services, as examples), the impact of employment (child care, transportation, household employees, real estate, among services that people traditionally outsource as a result of employment) as well as the impact of the business itself employment and revenues.
